Mexico once attracted vacationers to a string of Pacific coastal destinations, each with its own unique personality and vibe. Daily nonstop flights from the Western U.S. and Canada brought waves of beach-hungry, beer-loving tourists seeking the perfect Mexican beach vacation—complete with golden sands, clear waters, beach vendors, parasailing, and fresh seafood, with perhaps a dash of local culture thrown in.
However, in recent years, these traditional vacation hotspots have faced increasing competition from newer, trendier destinations like Tulum and Cabo San Lucas, which have quickly risen in popularity among international travelers. These emerging destinations offer a blend of bohemian luxury, eco-tourism, and modern accommodations, attracting a younger crowd with different tastes. Still, the Mid-Pacific trio of Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, and Manzanillo remains a nostalgic favorite for many, offering a more relaxed and authentic Mexican coastal experience.
